The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given in-principle approval to six proposals, including the procurement of 3 lakh tonnes of diesel, Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) vaccines through Unicef, and the construction of two major bridges under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative.
The approvals came from the 9th meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair, according to the Cabinet Division.
Following a proposal from the Health Services Division, the meeting approved the direct procurement of EPI vaccines through Unicef to ensure uninterrupted supply at the field level for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
The committee also approved in principle two bridge construction projects under the PPP initiative proposed by the Bridges Division: the ‘construction of a bridge over the Meghna River on the Shariatpur-Chandpur road’ and the ‘construction of Bhola Bridge on the Barisal-Bhola road over the Kalabador and Tetulia rivers’.
Meanwhile, the committee recommended in-principle approval of three proposals from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division to import 3 lakh tonnes of diesel to meet the country’s emergency fuel demand amid the unstable geopolitical situation following the crisis in the Middle East.
Under the proposals, one lakh metric tonnes of EN590 10 PPM diesel will be imported from YAR Energy AG through the direct procurement method under international purchase. Another one lakh tonnes of 10-50 PPM diesel will be imported from K&R International Trading Company, and one lakh tonnes of EN590 10 PPM sulfur diesel will be imported from M/s Sikder International, all through direct procurement.
The emergency fuel import has been approved to ensure uninterrupted energy supply in the country in the context of global geopolitical instability, officials said.
