For the first time in Bangladesh, Google’s digital payment platform Google Pay is being officially launched.

On Tuesday, Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Ahsan H Mansur will inaugurate the service at a hotel in the capital.

This service is being launched in partnership with global tech giant Google and City Bank. International card brands Mastercard and Visa are also onboard as collaborators.

This makes City Bank the first bank in Bangladesh to be directly integrated with Google Pay.

With the launch of Google Pay, users in Bangladesh will be able to conduct transactions more easily, quickly, and securely using the Google Pay app on their smartphones.

Payments can be made simply by tapping the phone on any point-of-sale (POS) terminal, both at home and abroad. This eliminates the need to carry a physical plastic card. Google is not charging any fees for transactions.

In the initial phase, only City Bank Mastercard and Visa cardholders will be able to use this service.

Users must have an Android smartphone and download the Google Pay app from the Play Store. After linking their City Bank card to the app, they will be able to make payments at any store or restaurant by simply tapping their phone.
