Cultural Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki has been declared out of danger after being flown from Cox’s bazar to Dhaka by air ambulance and receiving treatment at Square Hospital.
Health Directorate Director General Prof Md Abu Jafar told reporters outside Square Hospital at Panthapath late Sunday night that the adviser’s condition had stabilised. “His physical state is now out of danger,” he said, adding that preliminary test results were satisfactory.
Hospital sources confirmed that he was admitted around 12:30am.
Farooki had earlier fallen ill while attending a workshop in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday evening. He complained of chest pain and high blood pressure while staying at Hotel Ocean Paradise.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Imran Hossain Sajib said doctors at the spot conducted initial check-ups before recommending that he be flown to Dhaka as a precaution. An air ambulance reached Cox’s Bazar airport at around 10:30pm and brought him to the capital.
The cultural adviser had arrived in Cox’s Bazar on Friday on an official visit and was scheduled to inaugurate a two-day workshop on Sunday aimed at developing the district as a cultural hub. Organisers later said the programme had been cancelled following his sudden illness.
