Israel launched airstrikes and drones at Iran throughout the day, while Iran fired a pre-dawn wave of missiles at Israel that killed at least eight people, AP reports.
US president Donald Trump posted on Truth Social an ominous message calling for the immediate evacuation of the Iranian capital while attending the G7 summit in Canada, which he had to cut short due to Iran-Israel escalatory attacks. Trump had said more than once during the day that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.
He said Iran should have signed the “deal’” he told them to sign to prevent what he said was “a shame, and waste of human life,” referring to Israel’s attack last week. Trump ended the post with, “Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!”
The Iranian capital city of Tehran is home to 9.5 million people. Shortly after the tweet, blasts were heard in Tehran, according to Iranian media reports, caused by several explosions and heavy air defence fire.
Earlier, the Israeli Defense Forces said that Iran has launched more missiles towards Israel, as sirens ram through northern Israel, advising residents to move to bomb shelters.
The IDF said that sirens were sounding across northern Israel and advised residents to move to bomb shelters.
The tit-for-tat strikes began when Israel attacked Iran over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program, and the fighting has raised fears of a wider, more dangerous regional war.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has said that Evacuate Tehran the strikes have set Iran’s nuclear program back, adding that Israel is not attempting to topple the Iranian government. However, he added that it would not be surprising if that happened as a result of the strikes.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was headed to the White House Situation Room to meet with President Donald Trump and his national security team. It comes as the US has repositioned both warships and military aircraft in the region to respond if the conflict between Israel and Iran further escalates.
Hegseth didn’t provide details on what prompted the meeting but said on Fox News late Monday that the movements were to “ensure that our people are safe.”
Hegseth’s chief spokesman, Sean Parnell, tweeted that “American Forces are maintaining their defensive posture,” with the US having helped Israel shoot down Iranian missiles earlier during the conflict.
So far, attacks between the two sides have resulted in 224 deaths in Iran, as the Israeli death toll rose to 24 earlier.
