The interim government is bolstering its efforts to ensure the welfare and equal rights of underprivileged women, particularly those living in the country’s remote and hill tracts, said Social Welfare Adviser Sharmin S Murshid during a visit to Rangamati on Monday.
Speaking at a views-exchange meeting with officials from the Social Services Division and local stakeholders at the Circuit House, the adviser emphasised the importance of equitable access to services for women across all regions, reports UNB.
“All officials under the Social Services Division must work with sincerity and commitment to guarantee that women, including those in the hill tracts, enjoy the same rights and opportunities as others in the country,” she said, calling for more dynamic implementation of welfare and cooperative activities in these areas.
The event was organised by the Rangamati district administration and chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ruhul Amin.
Adviser Murshid was welcomed upon arrival by Rangamati Hill District Council Chairman Farhad Hossen and other senior local officials.
Reinforcing the interim government’s commitment to inclusive development, the adviser urged local authorities to prioritise programmes that uplift neglected and marginalised women, particularly in geographically and socially isolated communities.
Social Welfare Secretary M Mohiuddin, Rangamati SP Farhad Hossain, Sadar UNO Rifat Asma, DSS Deputy Director M Omar Faruque, Family Planning Officer Dr Baby Tripura, and women’s rights advocate Nirupa Dewan were also present at the meeting.
