Eight passengers were seriously injured after a New Green Line Express bus travelling from Magura to Dhaka lost control and overturned on the Padma Bridge approach road in Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj on Monday.
The accident occurred around 2pm on Monday at the Mawa end of Padma Bridge when the Dhaka-bound bus allegedly lost control due to excessive speed and crashed into the roadside railing before overturning.
Soon after the incident, two rescue teams from Shreenagar Fire Station reached the spot and rescued eight injured passengers, including women, from the overturned bus.
The injured passengers were initially taken to Shreenagar Upazila Health Complex. As their condition was critical, they were later referred to Mitford Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
The injured passengers were identified as Saifullah, 80; Md Lutfor, 63; Rebekha Khatun, 40; Nur Islam, 46; Rashida, 40; Fatema, 7; Saif, 23; and Arafat, 13. Most of them are residents of different areas of Magura district.
Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Assistant Director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, said two rescue teams from Shreenagar Fire Station rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident and rescued the injured passengers from the bus.
“Later, the injured passengers were taken to Shreenagar Upazila Health Complex by Fire Service ambulances,” he said.
