The Election Commission (EC) has directed all election officers in the 64 districts to give priority to resolving old Category ‘C’ applications for National Identity Card (NID) revisions.

The directive was issued to all senior district election officers, district election officers, officers of the National Identity Registration Division (NIRD), and additional regional election officers in the districts and 10 administrative regions, reports BSS.

The office order, signed by NIRD Director Md Saiful Islam, was sent to regional election officers on Monday.

According to the order, 10 designated offices have been authorised to launch a special initiative — referred to as the “Crash Programme” — to dispose of Category ‘C’ applications for NID corrections. All such pending applications must be resolved by June 30.

The regional election officers have been instructed to coordinate and closely supervise the special programme within their respective jurisdictions.

As per a prior order issued on April 21, regional election officers are also permitted to delegate responsibilities to neighbouring senior district or district election officers, as well as upazila or thana election officers, depending on the volume of pending Category ‘B’ and ‘C’ applications.

The assigned officers are required to prioritise and process the older applications without delay.

Additionally, the deputy directors or assistant directors overseeing the 10 NIRD regional offices must verify the crash programme’s activities in their respective areas through double-checking and submit detailed reports to the NIRD director.

The director, in turn, will monitor the overall progress and submit a comprehensive report to the NIRD director general.
