Ahead of the upcoming 13th parliamentary election, the Election Commission (EC) has begun holding dialogues in phases with registered political parties.
On Sunday morning, the commission started the second day of talks with six registered parties: Gonoforum, Gono Front, Islamic Front Bangladesh, Islami Oikya Jote, Bangladesh Supreme Party (BSP), and Bangladesh National Party.
The discussion, which began around 10am, will continue until noon.
After a two-hour break, the EC will meet with another six parties. The parties are Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Bangladesh National Awami Party, Trinamool BNP, Krishak Sramik Janata League, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, and Islami Andolon Bangladesh.
This round of talks will continue until 4pm.
On Thursday, the EC held the first phase of dialogue. In subsequent phases, BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, NCP, and other registered parties will join. Since the Awami League’s activities are banned, the party has not been invited.
Currently, there are 53 registered political parties. However, the registration of the Awami League remains suspended, while the registrations of Freedom Party, United Citizens’ Movement, and PDP have been cancelled.
