Veteran actor Dolly Zahur is set to complete 50 years in the entertainment industry next year, marking a career that has spanned stage, radio, television and cinema.
A recipient of two National Film Awards as an actor, Dolly Zahur has also been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award and was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2024 for her contributions to the arts.
Reflecting on her long career, she said: “I have received more than I ever expected. There are many people more deserving than me. Perhaps I have simply been fortunate. I have received everyone’s love.”
The celebrated actor recently appeared on the podcast ‘Behind the Fame with RRK’. The special episode, hosted by Rumman Rashid Khan, will be broadcast simultaneously on Maasranga Television and Radio Dinrat 93.6 FM at 9 pm on Saturday, 20 June.
During the podcast, Dolly Zahur shared previously untold stories about late actor Salman Shah. She also spoke for the first time about Salman Shah’s mother Neela Chowdhury, actor Shabnur and Salman Shah’s wife Samira.
Over the course of her career, Dolly Zahur has acted in 161 films. At one stage, she received Tk100,000 per film. However, she revealed that she is still owed Tk3.4 million by the film industry.
She said the outstanding payments were particularly important during a period when her husband was ill, but no one came forward to settle the money owed to her.
