Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Monday distributed around 2,500 raincoats among its cleanliness workers to ensure uninterrupted sanitation services during the monsoon season.
The distribution programme took place in the morning at Gulshan Nagar Bhaban.
DNCC Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan attended the event as the chief guest.
He said the initiative is dedicated to sanitation workers who start work early in the morning to keep the city clean and ensure a hygienic environment for residents.
He added that the Prime Minister had earlier provided a special bonus to cleanliness workers during the last Eid in recognition of their contribution.
“We have a responsibility towards you and remain committed to your welfare. You will continue your work with dedication and we will provide all necessary support. We will consider ourselves successful only when city dwellers are satisfied with your work,” he said.
He also said that winter clothing, masks and gumboots had already been distributed earlier, and the raincoats are part of that ongoing support initiative.
Speakers at the programme stressed the need for ensuring safety of sanitation workers alongside raising public awareness, saying that a clean and livable Dhaka requires collective responsibility.
