Motazzerul Islam Mithu, known for his alleged role in health sector corruption during the Awami League regime, has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. The arrest took place on Wednesday morning in the Gulshan area of the capital.
Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Talebur Rahman, confirmed that Mithu was detained by a DB team. According to sources from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Mithu is accused of embezzling several crores of taka by manipulating medical equipment supplies and securing development projects in the health sector through his contracting firms.
The ACC has been investigating Mithu’s involvement in corrupt activities that allegedly undermined the integrity of the health sector during the tenure of the Awami League government.
