Import-export activities at Satkhira’s Bhomra land port resumed on Saturday morning after a six-day suspension during the Durga Puja festival, bringing back momentum to the port’s users.
With the reopening, Indian trucks carrying imported goods began entering Bhomra, while Bangladeshi trucks started crossing into India’s Ghojadanga port.
The port had remained closed since 28 September following a letter from the Ghojadanga C&F Agent Cargo Welfare Association, which notified Bangladeshi counterparts that operations would be suspended for five days for the Durga puja festivals. An additional closure on 3 October for Bangladesh’s weekly holiday extended the suspension to six days in total.
Confirming the resumption, President of Bhomra C&F Agent Association Abu Hasan said trade between the two countries was now running as usual after the religious holiday break.
Immigration Officer-in-Charge Rasheduzzaman said while trade was suspended during the period, passport-holding travellers continued to cross the border as usual.
Revenue officer Mizanur Rahman of Bhomra Customs added that commercial trade has returned to normal operations with the coordinated decision of both Bangladeshi and Indian traders.
