A Dhaka court has ordered seizure of income tax documents belonging to former cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order following a petition from the Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC), said Court bench assistant Md Riaz Hossain.
ACC Assistant Director and investigation officer Md Ferdous Rahman filed the petition seeking seizure of Asaduzzaman’s tax documents.
The ACC alleged that he abused his power and unlawfully acquired assets worth Tk5.37 crore inconsistent with his known sources of income.
Suspicious transactions amounting to Tk158.78 crore were also found across 19 banks and financial institutions in his name.
The ACC argued that for a fair investigation, it was essential to seize and review all permanent and miscellaneous parts of his tax files.
Earlier, on 30 July last year, the ACC filed the case. On 15 September same year, the court ordered the seizure of four flats and 10 kathas of land in his name, along with freezing 16 bank accounts.
Asaduzzaman was arrested on in September 2024, after the fall of the Awami League government, and has remained in prison since.
