A courtesy meeting was held at the battalion commander level between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Beniapur border in Jibannagar, Chuadanga.
During the meeting, BGB demanded an end to “BSF killings” and “push-ins” along the Beniapur border.
The hour-long meeting took place on Saturday from 5pm to 6pm. Assistant Director of Maheshpur-58 Battalion, Munshi Imdadur Rahman, confirmed the details in a press release at 7:45pm.
According to the release, the meeting was held near Main Pillar 63/7-S along the zero line of the border, under the jurisdiction of Beniapur BOP of Maheshpur-58 Battalion.
BGB representatives included Lieutenant Colonel Md Rafiqul Alam, psc, commanding officer of Maheshpur-58 Battalion, a staff officer, and eight others. From the BSF side, Commandant Mugunthan of 194 Battalion, a staff officer, and eight personnel participated.
During the cordial discussion, both sides focused on maintaining friendly relations, ensuring a stable border situation, preventing “border killings,” stopping human trafficking, avoiding BSF push-ins, and taking effective measures against drug smuggling.
After the talks, both battalion commanders and all participating members of BGB and BSF walked nearly two kilometres along the zero line of the border. The meeting concluded in a spirit of camaraderie, with both sides pledging to maintain friendly relations in the coming days.
