The Chamber Court of the Appellate Division has suspended the bail granted by the High Court to former Member of Parliament and singer Momtaz Begum in two cases following a state application.

Justice Md Rezaul Haque passed the order on Monday.

Earlier, on 15 June, the High Court had granted interim bail to Momtaz Begum in three cases – two filed with Ashulia Police Station and one with Mirpur Model Police Station.

The state subsequently moved the Appellate Division seeking to stay the bail in all three cases. On Sunday, the court issued a “no order” for one of the cases following a hearing. However, on Monday, the Chamber Court suspended the bail for the remaining two cases.

Momtaz Begum, the former Awami League MP for the Manikganj-2 constituency, was arrested in the capital’s Dhanmondi area on 12 May last year. Following a four-day remand for interrogation in one case, she was sent to jail on 17 May.
