BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that a particular party is attempting to steal expatriates’ postal votes.
He said this during a public rally organised at the Shayestaganj Upazila Parishad ground in Habiganj.
He said, “To bring about this development, BNP must be elected by voting for the Paddy Sheaf. You will go to the polling centre after offering Tahajjud prayers, and you will offer Fajr prayers with the Jamaat and vote for the Paddy Sheaf. Conspiracies have already begun; one political party is trying to seize expatriates’ postal votes.”
Tarique said that this political party is going door-to-door collecting people’s NID cards and giving money to their numbers. Everyone must be cautious and vigilant.
He added, “BNP wants development. It will create employment to eliminate youth unemployment, and at the same time, mothers and sisters will be given family cards and farmers will be given agriculture cards. BNP will stand by the people not as a party but in an official capacity.”
Throughout the day, BNP leaders and activists entered the ground in processions from nine upazilas, six municipalities, and 78 unions of the district via a temporary road built on the north side of the field. They were seen wearing caps with Tarique Rahman’s picture on their heads, carrying party flags, and colorful festoons in their hands.
With the presence of thousands of leaders, activists, and people from various classes and professions, the Shayestaganj ground became packed to capacity. Security arrangements with police, intelligence agencies, fire service, and Ansar members were strengthened around the field. Additionally, a separate stage was prepared on the south side of the main stage for family members of those martyred, injured, or victims of enforced disappearance during the mass uprising.
A sea of people gathered to catch a glimpse of Tarique Rahman. The rally was chaired by Habiganj District BNP Joint Convener and former MP Sharmi Akter. The rally was conducted by BNP Joint Convener M Islam Tarafdar Tanu.
Speakers at the rally included Divisional Organizing Secretary and BNP-nominated candidate for Habiganj-3 constituency GK Gaus, Associate Organizing Secretary Mizbah Uddin, Jubo Dal Central Committee President Abdul Moneem Munna, Chhatra Dal Central President Rokibul Islam Rakib, BNP-nominated candidate for Habiganj-1 Reza Kibria, BNP-nominated candidate for Habiganj-2 Sakhawat Hasan Jibon, candidate for Habiganj-4 Syed Md.
