With the BNP set to form the government following victory in the 13th National Parliament Election, leading figures from the entertainment industry have shared their hopes for the country’s future. Their expectations centre on peace, security, an end to corruption and greater state support for arts and culture.
Actress Babita said she hopes the country will “move forward beautifully” and that people will be able to live in peace. Alongside building a corruption-free Bangladesh, she called for a safe and unhindered environment for artists to practise their craft. She also urged the new government to increase the number of cinema halls nationwide, make the FDC more dynamic and implement the major infrastructure projects announced for the film sector.
Band star James said it is important that the country continues on its democratic path. He expressed hope for lasting peace and the wellbeing of the people.
Actress Champa said she wants a country where everyone can move freely without fear or panic. “Not just particular groups, but every person in the country should be able to live with dignity and have enough to eat,” she said.
Television director Chayanika Chowdhury spoke of her wish to live safely and securely as an ordinary citizen. She said she hopes to work peacefully in an environment free from obstacles.
Actress Afsana Mimi said she wants to see a Bangladesh free from religious extremism. She called for the spread of education, the building of a corruption-free nation and the strengthening of harmony. She also expressed hope that the government will give proper attention to the cultural sector.
Model and actor Adil Hossain Noble emphasised the importance of development and maintaining law and order. Calling for an end to extortion, he said that while any government will face criticism, it should accept it constructively and use it for the welfare of the country and its people.
Actress Azmeri Haque Badhon congratulated the winners and said the country must move forward on the basis of mutual respect and unity. She said she hopes for a Bangladesh where people of all religions and communities can live safely and equally, and where artists receive professional recognition at state level.
Film actor Nirab Hossain stressed the proper use of the country’s talent and resources. He called for planned initiatives across sectors including textiles, cricket and film to ensure rapid progress.
Actress Toma Mirza demanded an end to enforced disappearances, killings, extortion and corruption. She said that although the entertainment industry provides livelihoods for many, it is gradually shrinking. She called for more cinema halls and measures to expand the sector.
Actress Tanha Tasnia said she hopes for a fearless and peaceful Bangladesh, along with a supportive government attitude towards culture.
Meanwhile, actress Sadia Jahan Prova said she wants the Bangladesh she grew up in, marked by the spirit of 1971, the language movement of 1952, book fairs and the celebrations of Pohela Boishakh. She added that people of all faiths should be able to celebrate their festivals in peace.
