Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman has said that the caretaker government system is a supportive mechanism for Bangladesh’s democracy.
“From now on, voting will no longer continue into the night, and no deceased person will cast a ballot,” he said on Thursday.
He made the remarks following the Supreme Court’s verdict reinstating the non-party caretaker government system.
The attorney general said the full text of the SC judgment will clarify who will serve as the next chief adviser. It will also indicate whether the system will follow the previous framework or the July Charter. He stressed that the new constitution should be printed once the full verdict is published.
He also said, “The non-partisan caretaker government has returned. However, the next parliament will decide its exact composition.”
Five persons, including Badiul Alam Majumdar, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and Jamaat Secretary General Golam Parwar, filed the appeals.
Meanwhile, Badiul Alam Majumdar, secretary of Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan), said the SC ruling will pave the way for free and fair elections.
Speaking to reporters at the Supreme Court on Thursday, Majumdar said the ruling ensures a transparent and impartial electoral process.
Around 9:40am, a seven-member bench led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed delivered the historic verdict.
