Member of Parliament for the Madaripur-3 Anisur Rahman Khokon Talukdar has described canals as the “lifeblood of the farmer” and the “lifeblood of the harvest”.
Talukdar made these remarks to journalists on Thursday afternoon after inspecting the re-excavation work of a three-kilometre stretch of the South Bhautali Borokhal, extending to Bir Mohan Bridge, located in the Kazi Bakai Union of Dasar Upazila.
The MP stated that the canal excavation programme initiated by prime minister Tarique Rahman would allow Bangladesh to once again be recognised globally as a self-sufficient nation in food production.
He expressed further optimism regarding the prime minister’s agricultural initiatives, including the introduction of “farmer cards”. Talukdar remarked that these measures would ensure Bangladesh can meet its domestic requirements and eventually produce enough surplus food grains to facilitate exports abroad.
The inspection was attended by several officials and local figures, including Dasar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Zakia Sultana, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Hafizur Rahman, the Officer-in-Charge of Dasar Police Station, and Alauddin Talukdar, the proposed President of the Dasar Upazila BNP. Local leaders were also present during the visit.
