Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus on Thursday congratulated the Bangladesh delegation on the country’s re-election to the Council of Administration of the Universal Postal Union (UPU).
The election, held in Dubai on 18th September, saw Bangladesh secure 97 out of 157 votes, ranking ninth among the ten elected members. This marks Bangladesh’s second consecutive four-year term on the Council, according to a press release from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing.
During its previous tenure, Bangladesh’s participation was limited, attending only one physical meeting in November 2021 and following the remaining proceedings virtually, leaving little opportunity for meaningful contribution.
Concerns had been raised that this limited engagement might jeopardize the country’s re-election bid.
However, through a coordinated diplomatic effort, Bangladesh successfully overcame the challenge.
Ambassador Tareq Ahmed, Bangladesh’s envoy to the UAE, described the outcome as a “diplomatic success.”
