A college student was killed and her father was critically injured by a tragic road accident in Chowgacha upazila of Jashore.
The deceased, Afia Islam, 24, was a fourth-year student at Mridhapara Women’s College in Chowgacha.
The accident occurred on Monday morning on the Chowgacha-Moheshpur road. Afia’s father, Mohidul Islam, was seriously injured and is currently undergoing treatment at the Upazila Health Complex.
According to eyewitnesses and police sources, Afia was on her way to a bank in Chowgacha with her father on a motorcycle to deposit money. They were stuck in traffic near Ujjal Drug House, adjacent to the Moheshpur bus stand, when a reckless local bus named “Asma-Shanti” rammed their motorcycle from behind.
Afia fell onto the road and was run over by the bus, dying on the spot. Her father, Mohidul Islam, sustained serious injuries.
Locals immediately rushed them to the Chowgacha Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Afia dead.
Chowgacha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anowar Hossain said that following the incident, the bus driver fled, abandoning the vehicle in front of the Chowgacha Motor Vehicle Workers’ Union office.
Later, the bus was seized.
