India’s Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday pushed in 45 Bangladeshis and returned 27 others through various border points.

According to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the push-ins took place at Panchagarh (23), Lalmonirhat (9), Thakurgaon (8) and Meherpur (5). The returns occurred in Chuadanga (22) and Joypurhat (5) following company commander–level flag meetings between BGB and BSF.

In Panchagarh, 13 women, nine men and one child were pushed in through the Borobari border in Harivasha union early Wednesday. BGB’s Ghagra Border Outpost (BOP) patrol detained them and handed them over to police for identity verification.

In Lalmonirhat’s Patgram border, BSF pushed in nine Bangladeshis, including four men, three women and two children. They were detained from the Machirbari area of the Burimari border by a patrol of Teesta Battalion-2 (61 BGB).

Thakurgaon’s Pirganj upazila saw eight people pushed in via Fakirganj border, while four were sent back through the Dariapur border in Mujibnagar upazila of Meherpur.

In Chuadanga, 22 Bangladeshis, 10 men and 12 women, were formally handed over to BGB at noon near main pillar 76 following a flag meeting. Primary interrogation revealed they had entered India illegally at various times and lived in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Hyderabad.

In Joypurhat’s Panchbibi border, BSF returned five members of the same family. Those arrested had gone to Kerala’s Ernakulam in 2020 to work at a scrap shop. Later, they were detained by BSF on their way back home. Police said they would be handed over to their families after legal procedures.
