The body of former Bangladesh Air Force Flight Lieutenant KM Tahsif Sauri was recovered from the Turag river in the capital’s Uttar Khan area.
Members of the River Police recovered the body around 4:30pm on Wednesday. It was later sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
Abdullah Al Mamun, superintendent of police (Dhaka region) of the River Police, confirmed the information on Thursday morning.
He said police rushed to the scene after receiving information through the emergency service hotline 999 on Wednesday. Around 4:30pm, the body of Tahsif Sauri was recovered. One of his relatives was informed of the death, the official said.
The police official could not provide any information about the cause of death. He said the body would be handed over to the family after completion of the autopsy.
Meanwhile, following his death, some people have claimed that a video that went viral during the July mass uprising, showing ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina leaving the country, had been recorded by Tahsif.
However, River Police SP Mamun did not confirm the claim.
