A local BNP leader was critically injured after unidentified assailants opened fire on him in front of his house in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria on Friday night.

The victim, Mofizur Rahman Mukul, 52, is a former joint general secretary of the Nabinagar upazila unit of the BNP and a former convenor of the upazila Jubo Dal.

Police and witnesses said the attack took place around 8:30pm when Mukul was returning home from the party office in the West Para area. Three men on a motorcycle, who had reportedly been waiting nearby, opened fire on him and fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
