bKash organised a two-day seminar for its employees to strengthen skills in preventing online money laundering and terrorist financing (ML-TF), with the half-yearly programme themed “Managing ML&TF Risks involving online connectivity” held in Dhaka, the mobile financial service provider said in a press release on 4 August.
The seminar addressed risks tied to online gambling and betting, illegal trading of virtual assets, and other threats linked to online connectivity, examined within the framework of the Gambling Prevention Act, 2026. Discussions covered integrated service models, enhanced monitoring and evolving regulatory reporting requirements needed to safeguard interconnected financial services, with bKash reaffirming its commitment to strict compliance and regulatory standards across its operations.
The recently concluded programme was attended by Kamal Quadir, Chief Executive Officer of bKash; Major General Sheikh Md Monirul Islam (retd), Chief External and Corporate Affairs Officer (CECAO) and Chief Anti-Money Laundering and Compliance Officer (CAMLCO); Nishat Rahman, Chief Customer Service Officer; Mazedul Islam, Chief Legal Officer; and Saber Sharif, Head of AML&CFT at bKash, along with other senior officials. Regional-level AML-CFT officials from across the country, as well as representatives from various departments of bKash, also took part.
Following directives from Bangladesh Bank, bKash’s compliance teams are deployed across different regions of the country. The company regularly conducts awareness and training programmes involving field-level agents, merchants, distributors and customers with the aim of ensuring risk-free transactions and preventing money laundering and terrorist financing.
bKash has taken a pioneering role within the mobile financial services sector through its customised compliance tool, the AML 360 Financial Crime Investigation Solution, and its Screening Intelligence System (SIS), both used to detect non-compliant transactions and take necessary corrective action.
