Veteran Indian actor Biswajit Chatterjee has been admitted to a private hospital in Mumbai after undergoing cataract surgery on his left eye. Following medical advice, he has postponed his scheduled visit to Kolkata this month.
According to ETV Bharat, doctors performed the surgery on Tuesday, 30 June. They confirmed that the procedure was successful and that the actor’s condition is stable. However, they advised him to take complete rest at home for 15 days and avoid travelling until he has fully recovered.
As a result, Biswajit will not attend a scheduled programme in Kolkata on 12 July. The West Bengal BJP had planned to felicitate the veteran actor at the event, which has now been cancelled.
Born in Kolkata during British India, Biswajit Chatterjee starred in several popular Bengali films, including Mayamriga and Dui Bhai. He also appeared in the 1962 Hindi film Bees Saal Baad.
In 1975, he directed and produced Kehte Hain Mujhko Raja, starring Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Shatrughan Sinha and Rekha.
Biswajit is also the father of popular Tollywood actor Prosenjit Chatterjee. He recently drew attention after reacting to Prosenjit’s appearance in the recently released film Abhiman.
