Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods, arms, and ammunition worth around Tk177.78 crore during nationwide operations, including border areas, in May 2026.
Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam confirmed the matter in a press release on Wednesday. BGB seized contraband includes 3.648 kg of gold and 4.100 kg of silver.
The seizure list includes 11,419 saris, 2,831 three-pieces/shirt pieces/shawls/blankets, 9,368 ready-made garments, 4,514 metres of unstitched cloth, 1,28,928 cosmetic items, and 37,154 pieces of imitation jewellery.
Moreover, BGB recovered 39,99,797 firecrackers, 6,017 cubic feet of timber, 7,007 kg of tea leaves, 65,700 Gillette blades, 3,310 kg of betel nuts, 25,860 kg of coal, 3,465 cubic feet of stone, and 170 cubic feet of sand.
Electronic and consumer goods were also a significant part of the recovery, with 405 mobile phones, 2,940 mobile displays, 56,148 mobile parts, 36,411 electronic items, and 13,053 pairs of spectacles seized.
In terms of food and agricultural supplies, the force confiscated 96,402 kg of cumin, 23,451 kg of sugar, over 20 lakh packets of various food items, 4,691 kg of garlic, 597 kg of fertiliser, 2,642 packets of pesticide, and 2,89,508 pieces of chocolate.
BGB also seized 228 litres of fuel (diesel, octane, petrol, and mobil), 745 head of cattle, and 139 various vehicles, including trucks, pickups, private cars, microbuses, auto-rickshaws, and motorcycles.
Regarding arms and ammunition, the BGB recovered one foreign/local pistol, one rifle, two magazines, 258 rounds of ammunition, and one rocket launcher, along with two other types of weapons.
During the operations, 188 individuals were detained for involvement in smuggling and drug trafficking. Moreover, 92 Bangladeshi nationals, six Indian nationals, and 392 Myanmar nationals were detained for illegal border crossing.
Legal measures have been taken against all those detained.
