The Bangladesh Football Federation is set to appoint a new head coach for the national football team within three days, following the conclusion of Javier Cabrera’s tenure. CVs have been received from experienced coaches across Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Croatia and Australia.
Shortlist cut to ten
The BFF began the process by drawing up a preliminary shortlist of 20 candidates. At a meeting of the National Teams Committee held on Monday at Fortis in the capital, that list was trimmed to ten. The federation will hold direct discussions with the shortlisted candidates over the coming three days before finalising an appointment.
Media Committee chairman Amirul Islam Babu confirmed the timeline to journalists after the meeting: “We have made a shortlist of ten coaches. Over the next three days, we will speak with them and finalise one.”
National Teams Committee member Shahadat Hossain elaborated on the calibre of interest received: “CVs have come from Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Croatia and Australia. We hope we will be able to finalise one within three days.”
Two national teams for simultaneous fixtures
Monday’s meeting also resolved a scheduling challenge. Bangladesh have been invited by Maldives to participate in a four-nation tournament, which overlaps with fixtures in San Marino. The committee decided to field two separate national teams to honour both commitments simultaneously.
Shahadat Hossain explained: “The hosts Maldives have requested us to send the national team. Since there are matches in San Marino and Maldives at the same time, we will form two national teams. We have many players and there will be no problem forming the squads.”
