Police recovered the bloodstained body of a bank officer from a flat in Lalbagh, Dhaka, on Friday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam, 43, a cashier at Standard Bank’s Chowkbazar branch. He lived with his wife Fahima Sharmin, their child and his mother-in-law at Zamzam Tower on RND Road.
Family members claimed Nazrul Islam died by suicide. Police, however, said the exact cause of death will be known after investigation and the post-mortem examination.
The body, bearing injuries on the throat and other parts, was recovered from the sixth-floor flat around 4pm and later sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy at night.
Sub-Inspector Shahidul Islam of Lalbagh Police Station said forensic experts from the Criminal Investigation Department collected evidence (CID) from the scene.
He added that the family told police Nazrul Islam attacked himself with a sharp weapon.
“Whether it was suicide or homicide can only be confirmed after receiving the autopsy report and completing the investigation,” the police officer said.
