Bank Asia plans to establish a wholly owned subsidiary in Hong Kong with an initial capital investment of HK$6 million over three years, seeking to expand its international operations and tap growing trade and investment between Bangladesh and China.
The bank’s board approved the proposal on Wednesday, according to a disclosure published on the Dhaka Stock Exchange on Thursday.
The proposed subsidiary will operate under a money lending licence, subject to Bangladesh Bank’s approval and completion of incorporation and licensing requirements in Hong Kong.
Bank Asia said the move would strengthen cross-border trade finance and provide a platform to pursue business opportunities linked to trade and investment flows between the two countries.
The subsidiary cannot begin operations until the necessary regulatory approvals are secured. The bank has not announced a launch date.
The expansion plan comes as Bank Asia reports sharply higher earnings.
Consolidated earnings per share (EPS) jumped to Tk1.47 in July–September 2026 from Tk0.27 a year earlier, an increase of 444.4 per cent, according to unaudited financial statements.
For the first nine months of 2026, consolidated EPS rose 36.7 per cent to Tk3.24 from Tk2.37 in the corresponding period last year.
Net operating cash flow per share climbed 73.3 per cent to Tk66.13 during January–September from Tk38.17 a year earlier, driven by higher cash inflows from deposits and borrowings, according to the bank.
Net asset value per share increased 5.4 per cent to Tk28.46 at the end of September from Tk26.99 a year earlier.
