Bangladesh women’s national hockey team left Dhaka early on Monday for Jakarta to play in the Women’s Asian Games Qualifying Tournament in Indonesia from April 23 to 29, marking their first appearance in this stage of continental competition.
This trip carries more than just fixtures. It signals Bangladesh stepping into a space they have never occupied before in women’s hockey.
Group A offers no easy introduction. Bangladesh will open against Chinese Taipei, then face Uzbekistan and Hong Kong, China in quick succession.
If Bangladesh finish in the top four, then they move on to the final round in Japan later this year.
