Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam has reaffirmed the government’s pledge to cut road traffic deaths and injuries by 50 per cent by 2030.
Speaking at the UN High‑Level Meeting on Global Road Safety, Rabiul highlighted Bangladesh’s legal, policy and technological reforms, including AI‑based speed control, stronger post‑crash response and targeted highway safety measures for pedestrians.
According to a press release from Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the UN, the minister said a comprehensive Road Safety Law will be enacted by December 2027, in line with the Safe System Approach and global best practices.
He stressed that achieving the 2030 target requires political commitment, partnerships and shared responsibility.
Bangladesh, he added, remains committed to working with the international community to build safer and more equitable roads. Rabiul Alam is leading the Bangladesh delegation at the UN meeting in New York.
