Bangladesh under-19s were eliminated from the ICC Under-19 World Cup after suffering a comprehensive seven-wicket defeat to England in their Super Six match in Bulawayo.
Put into bat at Queen’s Sports Club, Bangladesh were bowled out for 136, a total England chased down comfortably with 155 balls remaining. The result confirmed Bangladesh’s exit from the tournament, with no remaining path to the semi-finals.
Bangladesh’s innings began poorly when opener Zawad Abrar was dismissed in the first over, scoring six from three balls. Rifat Beg and Azizul Hakim Tamim attempted to rebuild, adding some stability before Rifat fell for 31 off 36 balls with the score on 53. Tamim followed soon after for 20 from 46 deliveries.
The collapse gathered pace when Kalam Siddiki Aleen was dismissed for 10 off 27 balls in the same over, leaving Bangladesh four down for 72. Rizan Hossain added nine from 18 balls before departing at 90, deepening the pressure on the batting side.
Mohammad Abdullah offered some resistance with 25 from 34 balls, but wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Shahriar Ahmed fought at the end, scoring 18 from 32 balls, but Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 136.
Sebastian Morgan led England’s bowling with three wickets, while Ralphie Albert and Manny Lamsden claimed two apiece. Alex Green, Farhan Ahmed and James Minto took one wicket each.
England’s reply began with an early setback when James Mores was dismissed for one by Al Fahad with just three runs on the board. Ben Dawkins and Ben Mayes then steadied the chase, taking England to 39 before Dawkins was removed by Al Fahad for 27 from 29 balls.
Mayes continued to bat fluently and was joined by captain Thomas Rew, who immediately took control of the innings with aggressive strokeplay. The pair pushed England firmly towards victory, with Rew reaching a commanding half-century.
Mayes was dismissed for 34 from 50 balls with England on 117, but by then the outcome was beyond doubt. Rew remained unbeaten on 59 from 50 balls, sharing an unbroken partnership with Caleb Foulkes, who finished on nine from 10 deliveries, as England sealed victory with seven wickets in hand.
For Bangladesh, Al Fahad claimed two wickets, while Samiun Bashir Ratul took one.
The defeat confirms Bangladesh’s elimination from the Under-19 World Cup, ending their campaign at the Super Six stage.
