Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and a Turkish business delegation explored ways to expand bilateral trade and investment, with both sides identifying scope in electronics, manufacturing and consumer goods.
The discussions were held at Gulshan Centre on Tuesday between DCCI office-bearers and a seven-member delegation from Turkey led by Turkish Electro Technology Exporters’ Association Vice President Burak Basegmezlar. Turkey Ambassador to Bangladesh Ramis Şen also attended the meeting.
Bangladesh–Turkey trade has continued to grow, reaching about $1.05 billion in FY25. Of this, Bangladesh imports stood at $416.76 million while exports totalled $634.53 million, said DCCI President Taskeen Ahmed.
Turkish investment in Bangladesh stands at around $74.05 million across multiple sectors, he added.
Taskeen Ahmed said Bangladesh offers strong potential for Turkish investors in readymade garments, leather and footwear, jute goods, agro-processed products, pharmaceuticals, light engineering, information technology services, software, home textiles and consumer goods. He invited Turkish companies to pursue both joint ventures and wholly owned investments.
Burak Basegmezlar said there is rising demand in Bangladesh for electronic equipment, home appliances and generators, adding that Turkish investors are interested in both joint and independent investment in these segments.
A delegation of Turkish entrepreneurs from the electronics and electrical equipment sector is expected to visit Bangladesh in November for further business-to-business (B2B) meetings and sectoral discussions, he said.
Turkey Ambassador to Bangladesh Ramis Şen said there is significant scope to expand bilateral trade further, stressing the need for closer engagement between business communities of the two countries.
He added that DCCI can play an important bridging role in strengthening private sector cooperation.
DCCI Senior Vice President Razeev H Chowdhury and Vice President Md Salem Sulaiman were also present.
