The Bangladesh Olympic Association has given cash rewards to athletes who won medals at two international events. The rewards were handed over at a special ceremony.

Bangladesh took part in the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain from 22 to 31 October. The boys’ and girls’ kabaddi teams both won bronze medals at the event.

Each kabaddi team received Tk 8 lakh as prize money. The total reward for both teams stood at Tk 16 lakh. Coaches linked with the teams received Tk 3.20 lakh. In total, the kabaddi teams and coaches received Tk 19.20 lakh.

Bangladesh later competed at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 7 to 21 November. The country won medals in table tennis, weightlifting, and wushu.

In table tennis mixed doubles, Khai Khai and Javed Ahmed won a silver medal. They received Tk 1.5 lakh each. Their coach, Mostafa, received Tk 60,000.

Weightlifter Ikra won three bronze medals. She received Tk 2 lakh for each medal, making it Tk 6 lakh in total. Her coach received Tk 1.20 lakh.

In wushu, Shikha won a bronze medal. She received Tk 2 lakh. Her coach received Tk 40,000.

The total cash reward for medal winners at the Islamic Solidarity Games stood at Tk 13.20 lakh.

There is no fixed reward policy from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Sports Council, the Bangladesh Cricket Board, or the Bangladesh Football Federation. The Bangladesh Olympic Association is the only body with a clear reward structure. Under this system, athletes and teams receive set cash prizes for medals from the SA Games to the Olympics.
