A terrorist group killed a Bangladeshi national two and a half months after his abduction in Libya.
The deceased has been identified as Alamgir Hossain, 35, a migrant youth from Manda, Naogaon. His brother Zillur Rahman confirmed the matter. Alamgir had been working as a labourer in Libya for seven years.
According to family and local sources, Alamgir worked as a cleaner in Tripoli, Libya. On 28 March, after Maghrib prayers, he was abducted by a terrorist group dressed in police uniforms who arrived in a microbus. He had been missing since then.
Zillur, also an expatriate in Libya, said although the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya was contacted multiple times to rescue Alamgir, there was no positive progress. He added that 31 other Bangladeshis were held hostage in the same terrorist hideout.
He mentioned that some Bangladeshis recently released from the hideout after paying ransom to the terrorists had demanded Tk25 lakh from Alamgir. However, as he refused to pay, he was beaten to death at least a month ago.
On Monday, Alamgir’s body was identified through photos found on the mobile phones of rescued hostages at the embassy. Regular contact is now being maintained with the embassy to recover the body and repatriate it to Bangladesh.
The victim’s wife, Shahina Akter and the family have sought the urgent intervention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya and relevant authorities to quickly recover and return the body.
