Afghanistan are set to host Bangladesh for a three-match T20I series in the United Arab Emirates in October, according to a report by ESPNcricinfo.

While the dates are yet to be finalised, the matches are expected to take place after the Asia Cup in September and before Bangladesh host West Indies for six white-ball games beginning in the third week of October.

If finalised, the series would complete the second leg of what was originally planned as a full-format tour in July 2024, comprising two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is. That series was later revised to include only white-ball matches and was due to be held in Greater Noida, India. However, it was postponed because of adverse weather conditions and Bangladesh’s congested calendar.

The ODI leg was eventually played in November 2024, with Afghanistan winning the series 2–1. The T20Is, if confirmed, would mark the first meeting between the sides in the format since their dramatic encounter in the T20 World Cup in Kingstown on 24 June 2024. Afghanistan’s victory in that game secured their historic place in the semi-finals of a World Cup for the first time.

For Bangladesh, the October T20Is would offer valuable preparation ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February and March 2026. For Afghanistan, the series would fill a gap between the Asia Cup and their tour of Zimbabwe at the end of October, followed by three T20Is each against West Indies and New Zealand.

Meanwhile, the Afghanistan and Bangladesh cricket boards are also in talks to reschedule the two-match Test series from the original 2024 itinerary, with a possible window opening up in 2026.
