Gonosanghati Andolon Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki on Saturday said various attempts are being made to create fear surrounding the national election.
Speaking at a rally at the Shaheed Minar in Tangail city, he said the Election Commission and the government must take responsibility for removing uncertainty and ensuring a proper electoral environment.
“The fear will fade, and the election will be held on time,” he said. “It is the duty of the Election Commission and the government to dispel this fear and create a fair environment. This atmosphere must not be obstructed in any way. Ensuring an electoral environment is a major challenge, and political parties also have a role. We have repeatedly said that a joint committee involving the Election Commission, the government, and political parties is necessary.”
The rally was organised in support of the party’s ‘Mathal’ (peasants’ straw hat) symbol and aimed at securing the fair share of workers, farmers, labourers, and marginalised people.
Saki said reforms have become inseparable from the election process. “To implement reforms, an election for a council on voting and constitutional reform is needed. This election must take place—there is no alternative for Bangladesh. We must move forward in unity to ensure that this election is not harmed.”
He accused “fallen fascists” and various groups of attempting to obstruct the election for their own political interests.
Gonosanghati Andolon organiser and Sadar constituency candidate Fatema Rahman (Bithi), organiser Tushar Ahmed, and Sadar Upazila member secretary Farzana Jesmin also attended the rally.
Earlier, a procession marched from the municipal park through key streets before gathering at the Shaheed Minar.
