Asian Group retained the Asian Group Corporate Futsal Tournament title for a second successive year after beating Clifton Group 2-1 in the final at the Asian Group Sports Complex in Chattogram on Thursday.
The final of the third edition took place on November 5 at the venue beside Bayezid Textile Gate Circle. Asian Group secured the trophy in a closely contested match to complete another successful campaign as hosts and defending champions.
State Minister for Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest and handed the trophy to the winning team. Asian Group Managing Director Mohammad Abdus Salam was also present as a special guest.
Addressing the ceremony, the state minister praised the tournament for bringing corporate organisations together through sport beyond their professional commitments.
He said such initiatives could help keep young people away from drugs, promote physical and mental well-being, and strengthen friendly relations between business organisations.
Asian Group Director Wasif Ahmed Salam said the annual competition was organised to build stronger connections among corporate employees and promote a healthy, drug-free society.
He added that the organisers wanted to create opportunities for communication and friendship among officials from different companies alongside their business activities.
Asian Group Deputy Managing Director and Bangladesh Cricket Board director Sakif Ahmed Salam said the Asian Group Sports League had brought leading corporate organisations together, creating opportunities for networking and sharing experiences.
The tournament began on October 30, with 24 corporate organisations taking part in the third edition. The teams were divided into eight groups before competing for the title.
Asian Group’s victory over Clifton Group ensured that the hosts retained the trophy and completed back-to-back championship wins.
