Another Bangladeshi national was shot dead by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) at the Doarabazar border in Sunamganj early Saturday.
The deceased was Shafiqul Islam, 45, a resident of Bhanga Para village under Laxmipur union of the upazila.
Lieutenant Colonel Zakaria Kadir, commanding officer of Sunamganj Battalion 28 of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), acknowledging the matter said a group of Bangladeshi nationals, comprising 10 to 12 people, illegally entered around 500 yards into Indian territory through Bhanga Para along the Doarabazar border at 1am on Saturday targeting alleged cattle smuggling.
A BSF patrol team tried to stop them while they were returning with the cattle and threw 4 to 5 sound grenades targeting the group.
But they attempted to escape the area and threw stones at BSF team. Then BSF men fired 3 to 4 rounds at the group, leaving Shafiqul severely injured.
His fellows brought him back to Bangladesh territory in critical condition. Later, he was taken to the Doarabazar upazila health complex, where he died while undergoing treatment.
The commanding officer said that the BGB has sent a protest note regarding the incident and arrangements for a flag meeting are also underway.
Besides, a Bangladeshi man named Azgarh Ali, 32, son of Kanu Ali of Jibonpur village of the upazila, was shot dead allegedly by the BSF along Minapur border in Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon district around 4am on Saturday.
