Ami Probashi, a digital platform with more than nine million users, has introduced a pre-departure visa verification service for Bangladeshi migrant workers travelling to Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, as part of efforts to curb visa-related fraud and promote safer migration.
The service, which is already operational, allows prospective migrants to verify their visas by calling 16768, according to the platform. Users provide key visa details over the helpline, after which the Ami Probashi team conducts verification and sends the result by SMS, confirming whether the visa is valid or invalid.
If visa information cannot be traced in the system, callers are advised to contact the relevant embassy of the destination country. Where visas are found to be valid and approved by the appropriate authorities, the SMS confirmation states that the visa is authentic.
The verification facility is available for a nominal service fee and is currently accessible only through the 16768 helpline. The platform said the initiative addresses a critical vulnerability in the migration process, where workers are often exposed to fraudulent documents before departure.
Ami Probashi Founder and Managing Director Tariq Ekramul Haque said the organisation’s goal is to make overseas migration safer and more transparent for Bangladeshi workers. He said the fast and reliable verification process is designed to reduce the risk of visa fraud and allow migrants to travel abroad with greater confidence, describing it as an important step toward worker protection.
Launched in mid-2020, the Ami Probashi app provides technology-driven solutions for prospective migrants and expatriate workers, focusing on challenges faced throughout the migration journey.
