Alpine have confirmed that they will part ways with Jack Doohan ahead of the 2026 season. The decision brings an early end to the Australian’s short and busy spell with the team.
Doohan joined the Alpine Academy in 2022. He then worked as a reserve driver in 2023. That same year, he finished third in the Formula 2 championship. He is the son of five time 500cc world champion Mick Doohan.
His Formula One debut came sooner than planned. At the end of the 2024 season in Abu Dhabi, Alpine ended ties with Esteban Ocon one race early. Doohan stepped up and later secured a full time seat for 2025.
However, his run with the team did not last long. He raced alongside Pierre Gasly for only six rounds. After weeks of reports and talk, Alpine replaced him with Franco Colapinto, who joined from Williams.
The move was first called a seat rotation. But Alpine kept Colapinto for the rest of the season. Doohan returned to test and reserve duties and spent most weekends away from the grid.
A few weeks into 2026, Alpine made the split official. The team released a statement confirming the decision.
“BWT Alpine Formula One Team confirms it has reached a mutual agreement with Jack Doohan to not continue his driving services with the team for the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship season and allow him to pursue other career opportunities,” read the statement.
“Jack became the first member of the Alpine Academy to graduate into a race seat with the team when he made his Grand Prix debut at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
“The team would like to thank Jack for his commitment and professionalism to the team for the past four years, both on and off track, and wishes him all the best for the future.”
Doohan’s next step is still unclear. He was seen testing Super Formula cars late in 2025, which has sparked fresh interest around his future.
Alpine still have cover in place. Former Formula 2 driver Paul Aron remains in a back up role. He took part in several tests and practice sessions during 2025 to support Gasly and Colapinto.
