Bangladesh mystery spinner Aliss Al Islam has been reported for a suspect bowling action just a day after making his long-awaited ODI debut against Afghanistan in Sharjah.
The 29-year-old played his first ODI on Wednesday during the UAE Tri-Series. However, his debut has now been followed by concerns over the legality of his bowling action.
In a media release on Thursday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed that match officials had raised concerns about his action during the match against Afghanistan.
Aliss will now have to undergo an independent assessment at an ICC accredited testing centre under the ICC’s regulations for illegal bowling actions.
The test will determine whether his bowling action falls within the permitted limit of 15 degrees of elbow extension. He can continue bowling in international cricket until the assessment results are available.
Aliss made his ODI debut after years of waiting for an opportunity at the highest level. He bowled 8.3 overs against Afghanistan, conceding 47 runs without taking a wicket.
This is not the first time questions have been raised about his action.
Aliss first attracted attention during the 2019 Bangladesh Premier League when he claimed a hat-trick on debut for Dhaka Dynamites. However, his bowling action also came under scrutiny that season.
He faced similar concerns during the 2025 BPL while playing for Chittagong Kings.
Despite those setbacks, Aliss continued to perform in domestic cricket and eventually earned his place in Bangladesh’s ODI squad for the UAE Tri-Series.
His latest report has now raised fresh uncertainty over his international career, with the spinner awaiting the results of another bowling action assessment.
