Eastern University has announced the appointment of Brigadier General (Retd.) AKM Iqbal Azim as the Dean and Professor of the School of Business Administration.
The appointment is expected to significantly strengthen the university’s academic leadership and further enhance the quality of business education, according to a press release.
Azim brings a distinguished blend of leadership experience, academic excellence and institutional vision. He is a graduate of the National Defence College (NDC), Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) and the Artillery Centre & School (ACS).
He holds a PhD with Fellowship from Rajshahi University (Institute of Business Studies), an MBA from Canada, a Master of Defence Studies (MDS) from National University and a Master of Science Technical (MST) from National University, achieving excellent academic results.
His academic and professional background reflects disciplined leadership, strategic thinking and a deep understanding of higher education.
Prior to joining Eastern University, Azim served as Vice Chancellor (Designate) of Synergy University Bangladesh and as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP).
He is also an academic specialist of the Public Service Commission (PSC). Earlier, he served with distinction as the Commandant of the Artillery Centre & School and as Principal of Rajshahi Cadet College, his alma mater.
During his tenure in these roles, he worked closely with faculty members, instructors and students, supervised and moderated a significant number of postgraduate research works, and contributed to curriculum development and academic quality enhancement.
He has a book publication based on his doctoral research to his credit, along with several academic articles.
Azim has extensive international exposure, having attended academic courses abroad, represented Bangladesh in international academic and security forums, participated in United Nations peacekeeping and observer missions, and visited numerous countries across Asia, Europe, North America and the Middle East.
These experiences have provided him with a global perspective, which he now brings to Eastern University. He has a keen interest in golfing and sports. He is married and is the proud father of a daughter.
Eastern University believes that Professor Brigadier General (Retd.) Azim’s leadership will play a vital role in strengthening the School of Business Administration, enhancing research and industry engagement, and preparing students to meet national and global challenges.
