Akij Resources has entered the consumer electronics market with the launch of its Orca brand, opening the first outlet on Thursday at Kamal Ataturk Avenue in Banani, Dhaka.
The outlet operates under Akij Consumer Electronics Limited, according to company officials present at the inauguration.
The group initially plans to run an outlet-led retail model featuring global appliance brands, before moving into manufacturing and marketing Orca-branded products in Bangladesh at a later stage.
Orca will offer home and office appliances, including refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, televisions, washing machines and ovens.
Products from international brands such as Samsung, LG, Hitachi, Haier, Whirlpool, Panasonic and Philips will be available at the outlet.
Akij Consumer Electronics Limited Chief Business Officer Md Abu Tariq Zia Chowdhury said the venture aims to serve Akij’s existing customer base with improved service quality and reliable products.
He said after-sales service would be the company’s key differentiator, adding that customer complaints would be addressed within 24 hours.
Akij Resources plans to open at least 25 Orca outlets across major cities, including Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet, Barishal, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna and Mymensingh, by 2026.
The company targets 100 showrooms nationwide by 2028.
Akij Resources Cluster CEO Shahriar Ishtiaq Halim and other senior executives attended the launch.
