An unidentified man, aged approximately 45, died after a rod pierced his abdomen in the Tejgaon Railgate area of Dhaka on Sunday. The victim was pronounced dead by duty doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) emergency department.
Abdur Rahman, a pedestrian who came to the victim’s aid, reported finding the man bleeding profusely near railgate at around 3pm while he was on his way to the airport. Rahman said the injured man called out for help and added that he had fallen, causing a rod to enter his stomach.
Before his death, the victim reportedly clarified to Rahman that he had not been attacked by anyone, reiterating that the injury was the result of an accidental fall. The man was initially taken to a hospital in Farmgate before being transferred to DMCH.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed that there was a visible wound on the man’s abdomen. He added that the body is currently being held at the morgue for an autopsy, while efforts to identify the deceased are ongoing.
