Mia Golam Porwar, secretary general of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has expressed concern over BNP’s recent demand to exclude employees of different service-oriented and non-political institutions including Islami Bank, and Ibn Sina Hospital from the national election duties.
In a statement issued on Sunday, he said, “On October 23, BNP called on the Election Commission to refrain from assigning election responsibilities to staff from Islami Bank, Al-Arafah Islami Bank, Islami Bank Hospital, Ibn Sina Hospital, and similar institutions. I express deep concern over this. We believe this demand is politically motivated, irrational, and entirely unacceptable. There is no logical basis behind it.”
He further stated that these institutions are non-political and service-oriented, with a long-standing reputation for professionalism and integrity. People from all walks of life, regardless of religion or background, receive services from them and are satisfied. Their staff perform duties with honesty and dedication, and there is no question about their neutrality.
He added that if political parties continue to make baseless claims against such institutions, it could create uncertainty and disorder around the election process. If the Election Commission entertains such misleading demands, it may pave the way for more unwarranted claims in the future, potentially disrupting the electoral process.
He also said, “We urge the Election Commission not to entertain BNP’s misleading, baseless, and politically motivated demand.”
