Four suspects have been detained in connection with killing of a businessman in the Madunaghat area of Hathazari upazila.
The victim Abdul Hakim, 65, a resident of Panchkhain village in Bagoan Union under Raozan upazila, was gunned down in public on Tuesday afternoon.
The arrests were made during overnight drives in different parts of Chattogram, police said on Wednesday.
Kazi Tarek Aziz, additional superintendent of police (Hathazari Circle), confirmed the detentions, saying, “We have detained four individuals on suspicion of involvement in Abdul Hakim’s murder. They are currently being interrogated to determine their role in the incident.”
He informed the media that no formal case had been filed yet, but the victim’s family is expected to lodge a complaint with Hathazari Police Station later on Wednesday.
According to police and eyewitnesses, Hakim was shot in broad daylight on Tuesday. Critically injured, Hakim was rushed to Evercare Hospital in Chattogram city, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
A video circulating on social media shows three visible bullet marks on the front windshield of the vehicle. Hakim was seated on the front passenger side, and several bullet holes were also seen on the window next to him.
Passersby can be seen trying to rescue him while he lay covered in blood. The deceased Hakim owned a cattle farm named ‘Hamim Agro’ in the area.
