Two individuals lost their lives in a road accident on the Kanchpur Bridge on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Narayanganj early on Thursday.
The incident took place around 6am, according to the Highway Police.
Traffic Inspector Mohammad Zulhas Uddin, in charge of Shimrail Highway Police, said, “A truck had broken down on the Kanchpur Bridge in the morning. When the driver attempted to remove the vehicle with the help of another truck, both vehicles became stuck on the Dhaka-bound lane near the road divider.”
He further explained, “The trucks were being cleared to allow smoother traffic flow when two individuals were hit by an unidentified vehicle traveling on the Chattogram-bound lane. They were on their way to a tea stall near Sajeda Hospital in Shimrail when the accident occurred. Initial suspicions suggest the victims might have been the truck drivers.”
One of the deceased has been identified as Rakib, aged about 35. The identity of the second victim remains unknown.
The bodies were recovered and have been moved to Kanchpur Highway Police Station for further investigation.
