A 9-year-old boy Tanvir, who suffered severe burns in an air conditioner (AC) explosion in Dhaka’s Jatrabari on 20 September, died on Monday morning, raising the death toll from the incident to two.
Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirmed that Tanvir succumbed to his injuries around 7am while receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit. He had sustained burns on 45 percent of his body.
Earlier, on Wednesday, Tanvir’s father Tuhin, who suffered 47% burns in the same incident, died while undergoing treatment at the institute’s High Dependency Unit.
On 20 September, four members of the family were injured in the blast and rushed to the hospital’s emergency department. Tanvir’s mother, Eva Akter, 30, and younger brother, Tauhid, 7, are still under treatment.
